Baking in general is a totally different story than baking for
someone in particular. Yestherday my cousin Eefke and her husband Hugo
had their birthday celebration going on and as you know, there is no
party without cupcakes!
Since they are a truly stylish couple, the cupcakes had to be a perfect match.
When you find yourself in this situation but you're are in doubt, choose one source of inspiration and work from there.
As
you can see, they were happy with the result and the party was a blast
so... mission accomplished! On to the next fun challange.

Happy 1st Birthday!
Today is little Julia's first birthday!
Because she is a big fan of Bumba the clown, these are her birthday cakes!
And yes, two cakes. One for the friends and family and a small one for Julia herself.

The biggest cake was decorated with of course, Bumba, balloons and a guirlande.
The small cake was decorated as a drum, perfect for those little hands, with again Bumba on top.
Happy Birthday Julia! I hope your day is super fun.

Party time!
Party time!
Today is my birthday so let's celebrate!
We all know the best party's include cake, cocktails and cute decorations.
Naturally I couldn't just make one cake, a party with me means desert table!
Just keep in mind that the bigger you make the pompon, the more layers of crepe paper you use. The more layers the more beautiful your pompon gets!

French pastry with peaches and almond
Chocolate cake
Lemon cake
Mini party cupcakes
Cheesecake with forrest fruit
Ready to serve the Bellini's!
Party decorations where made possible by my stack of washi tape, crepe paper and a some serious DIY!
Did you notice the colorful flags on the cupcakes?
Yes, those..
That's just a little washi tape and some imagination. Cute, aren't they?
A formation of lanterns and pompons serves perfectly as party decoration instead of the standard party banners.
Lanterns are individually sold and so are pompons, but these last ones are also fun to DIY.

I used tutorial from Girlscene to make these and it really isn't that hard.

Get yourself some crepe paper, a piece of yarn and a pair of scissors and follow this DIY!
When the sun came out, I moved my decorations, and of course the party, to the garden where they looked even better.
Add some pink champagne...
And a gorgeous gift (one of many actually)
And you end up with an amazing birthday!
Thank you to everyone who visited, has send a sweet card of message or has done something else to add to this day.
It was gorgeous weather and I had fun! Thank you all!

Pretty in purple
For my latest cupcake project, due today, I accepted the challenge of making marzipan decorations. I made small flowers and christmas decorations of it before but I never decorated the entire cupcake with it.
But even though I was a little scared at first, I think I did pretty good with these birthday cupcakes.

Birthday Girls
This week, two of my colleagues wanted to celebrate their birthdays at work and as a treat they asked me to make the cupcakes if I wanted to.
Do I ever not want to make cupcakes?
Happy Birthday Jolanda & Merit!

Alice in Candyland
About two weeks ago I turned 22, that could only mean one thing: party!
Since I'm still in love with cupcakes and baking I figuered I should include that somehow. I had put it aside for a while when suddenly Katy Perry came to the rescue, her California Girls give me the best possible party idea.
Cupcakes, cookies, candy and popsicles what other things can actually make a sweet 22 sweet? I decided to go for the complete sugar buzz and went crazy in the kitchen. First thing, cupcakes obviously. I made vanilla with raspberry buttercream frosting but also chocolate with triple chocolate chuncks and cream cheese frosting. Because I like how original you can be with the classic idea of the gingerbread man, I used a Dutch old school recipe for cookies and created cute shapes with several cookies cutters. Using egg white frosting I made faces, clothes and patterns on my boys/girls, ice cream cones, wrapped candy, flowers and hearts. Since I always make to much food I also made Blondies, a very tasteful white chocolate version to the original, dark chocolate, brownie. I added darker chocolate chuncks instead of walnuts or almonds to put my own spin on it.
The last home made treats where popsicles made out of fresh watermelon, unfortunately the weather wasn't perfect for something cold but they still tasted great. As a finishing touch I bought all kinds of candy we used to eat when we were little and dressed the table with a pink- and cupcake table cloth.
The cupcakes and blondies are recipes from Hummingbird Bakery that I have fine-tuned to my own taste.
The pictures were taken by my dear friend Esther, you can see her projects at her website.
Even though my birthday had to end sooner or later, I've already made cupcakes several times after this party as a birthday treat at work and as an order. They all turned out real cute and tasty.
