A few days ago I was discussing birthday presents with one of my friends. We came to the conclusion that for some people it's really difficult to find something that suits them perfectly since they buy everything they want themselves OR they don't really have any specific hobbies. But there are also some people for who it's pretty easy to do right with b'day presents because you just know that whatever you buy from a specific hobby or genre, it will do. Apparently I am one of the last.
Not only am I a person that loves to shop, for anything actually, but I am also really clear about what I like. One of those things is of course: baking and cupcakes. I have the sweetest sisters and friends that always let me know when they see something cool with cupcakes or they surprise me with it. Atm I am still living with my parents, but I can imagine what my own home is going to look like when I move out.
Here some things that I haven't bought yet but are a-ma-zing.
'You're dangerous, I'm loving it' Yes, while making this blog I'm listening to Glee music. Cupcakes are dangerous to me.
Or
Even though I past the age of six years ago, I would still wear them.
Cutest pincushion I have ever seen
Transform your cold feet to cute feet
Some luxurious things
Katy you make me so jealous! I will never be able to afford this cutie, but I keep searching for the imitation.
'I'm addicted to you, don't you know that you're toxic' Gosh I love them so much!
The name of this blog, the saying 'tough cookie', is kind of perfect for the subject. I want to tell you something more about me. Of course I'm always blogging about things I like, things I would like to have or things I admire. But I never really blogged about what I am. Right now. Who and what am I?
Okay, so why is 'tough cookie' a good title? It's not to say that I'm a total bad ass, 'cause I'm not, but it's the combination of those two words. The two worlds actually.
Being tough (strong, cool, not easy to hurt) and a cookie (sweet, cute) are total opposites. But I'd like to believe I have a little bit of both, I'm talking about both the inside and outside.
Style I think the mixture of the two things is the most striking here.
- Although I love my new cool leather short boots, I also really love my cute little Uggs. They are actually little because I have quite small feet.
- I hardly ever wear an outfit not involving black, but black looks so good with that little pink touch.
- I adore the Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, but I have hamster cheeks (truly) so they just won't look cool on me.
- I love my red leather Friis & Company bag, but I'm still dying to find a cupcake themed bag too.
Can you see where this is going?
I just love how Les Plasticines dress. Tough, leather, black but still with dresses and long beautifull hair. Tough and cute! And they are a bad ass female rock band. What's not to like about that?
Maybe she's a bitch, but she's a well dressed bitch that makes amazing music. Just so you know.
On the inside I'm definitely more a cookie than I am tough. For some reason there are still people trying to test that, even though it's not hard to see when you've met me, so it's really not neccesary. I'm still working to get more tough when it comes to feelings and I really learned some usefull things the past time. From myself but also from others. Never doubt yourself. I believe that the decisions we make, the way we act and the people we surround ourselves with are a pretty good mirror of what we are. It took me some time and experience to figure that out but better late then never. At least now I can stop doubting myself every single time anyone else does. We are not all the same. That's just the way it is.
Music I'm really into rock music. Think about bands like Muse, Foo Fighters, Bands of Skulls, Kings of Leon, The Pretty Reckless, Nickelback. I can't think of a better sounds than distored guitars. But sometimes when I'm in this dreamy mood or I'm thinking things over I also really love music that is fragile. Music that doesn't cover anything up but shows everything it's about. Therefor I also really love KT Tunstall, Duffy, Counting Crows, James Morrison. I like the balance. At some moments I can really go wild, dance and scream along at a busy concert or festival and at another time I can just relax and dream away.
Addictions/hobbies I think it's obvious what my latest addiction is since I'm always talking about it: Baking. I love to make cupcakes, cookies and cakes. I love it allright, but it's not a thing for a rock star to do.
(the cake I made for christmas)
But a while back there was something totally different I was crazy about, my electric guitar. Of course I still love it, but to be really really good you have to put some serious time in it which I do not always have or want to give up for it. I like to do different things, not just one. Still I think I should put some more effort in it soon since I get all excited when I hear great solo's.
Even though I am already growing more into what I would like to be and I don't want to be a copy of somebody else, there is someone that states an example. I do not know her personally but in my opinion she is independent, fun, extremely talented, hard working, cool (also her looks) and since she has a husband too she is definitely loving.
I've seriously been to every shoe store in the area, several times, the last months because I really really want boots like that. Never found the exact right pair, the looked too 'pippi longstocking', too 'army boot' or just ugly.
Now while reading someone's blog I saw this picture of Miss B./Miss Leighton Meester herself with the boots. I will probably not be able to afford the exact same pair she has, but they have the exact right look.
I did see these boots from Wanted in an add in Nylon Magazine, but since I live in Holland, Europe, I'm not able to buy them.
If you read this and know where to find them, please tell me!
Love, Noes
PS. How cute is that dog! And of course, she's awesome.
It is a fact that baking is one of my addictions, reading blogs and tumblr’s too. The combination of those two makes me start a whole new baking adventure every once in a while. Yesterday it was making macarons, the cute colored French cookies.
I must admit that this was not an adventure, it was a battle. Even though I read that making macarons isn't easy, I was determined to make them successfully. It took a lot of time, a lot of frustration and even more cleaning up but it is the final result that counts: I did it!
Here two pictures made with my Blackberry (not the best quality). The macarons were mint colored, regular almond flavor with chocolate filling in regular size and mini.
There are enough excuses to explain why it has but that's just useless. Only one of them inspired me to blog about: I need to focus on things that make me happy, not on the things that make me feel bad.
So here we go..
Just so you know
Going to
Going to be busy with
Fashion and style
Things that always make me smile
This post has become something like tumblr but pictures just say so much more than words. I'm also gonna host a tea party soon with everything homemade (by me of course) so that will mean new blog recipes!
Looking at the current season this blog title sounds weird, but although I love the summer season, this is not what I am referring to.
Lately I am watching the DVD-box of The O.C. again. My all-time favorite character then of course is *drum ruffle* Summer Roberts! After watching an episode this morning I decided to write my blog about the girl behind this great character, Rachel Bilson. She always looks great, is funny, has cute dogs and has even dated Adam Brody (Seth in The O.C.) for a couple of years. Too bad they broke up if you ask me.
After playing the role of Summer for four entire seasons, she also played in Jumper, The Last Kiss and New York I love you.
So my inspiration for the fashion/beauty blog of today: Rachel Bilson. Just because.
Boots: Sacha Jeans: H&M Shirt: H&M Cardigan: Zara Bag: Zara Beanie: Zara
Hair: Just loose and natural, but you could straighten it if you want. Make-up: Use black kohl around the eyes and black mascara, maybe some concealer if needed but the look mostly is natural with emphasize on the eyes.
The combination the Glee girls made out of The Rolling Stones' start me up and Bon Jovi's living on a prayer is probably my favorite song at the moment but I have to make a confession. When I saw a Glee episode for the first time, I was horrified!
Don’t get me wrong, I totally love the series now but at first I took the whole storyline a bit to serious and didn’t know what to think. Luckely now I realized the story is not supposed to be so serious and the songs are so much fun. I'm a Gleek now!
After seeing a few episodes I think it’s only fair to say that Britney has much more potential than she seems to have with her goofy character. She’s actually a very good singer and (you’ll know it too after watching the clip) a great performer too. I don’t really have favorites, I especially like the diversity of the group.
Start me up ft. Living on a prayer by the Glee girls
A few other awesome songs are the time warp, the entire Britney episode, billionaire, telephone, forget you, can't touch this, the empire state of mind, bad romance and well actually almost every other song.
So for everyone that’s not watching Glee I suggest you are going to in the future, you have a lot of cool songs to catch up on.
Upcoming Wednesday is a day that many people have been waiting for, ‘Harry Potter and The Deadly Hollows’ part 1 will be released in Dutch cinemas. So while thinking about this blog and the movie, I found my new fashion subject: Emma Watson.
The twenty year old actress was born in France, moved back to England at the age of five and that’s where she discovered her talent for acting. To me, Hermoine is the favorite character of the Harry Potter movies but when talking about style and fashion, I think Emma herself has more of an eye for it.
So today: the Emma Watson copycat
Gemstone pendant: Aileen Invitations online store Peace sign necklace: Ebay I love NY shirt: NY Shirt online store Blazer: Zara Black skinny jeans: H&M Boots: Minnetonka
Keep your make-up and hair natural. Use some concealer if needed with light pink blush, black mascara and a soft black kohl line on the upper eyelid. The hairdo is a casual loose, low bun with possibly side bangs. Don’t force this, curls or straight hair will all do.
But in this case, KT Tunstall is not the 'you'. If there's anything she's not, it's a girl craving attention of the paparazzi. I think she's amazing: great voice, good style but never over the top. She's a great artist but not one that's in fashion or gossip magazines. For the gossip magazines: good but I think she is definitley worth being in cool fashion magazines because she simply rocks. At least she's an example to me.
Her new album Tiger Suit just came out and of course, I'm in love!
My favorites: Uummannaq song Glamous puss Fade like a shadow Come on, get in (to be honest, I just can't choose)
The album has a different feel to it than 'Eye to the telescope' and 'Drastic Fantasic'. It's more rythmic, maybe even pop compared to the rock'ish 'Drastic Fantastic' but still with her familiar edge. Even every song on itself has a different feel, with KT it's never dull. She surprises me again and again and it's plain simple: She is so talented!
You can buy and listen to bits of 'Tiger Suit' on bol.com and amazon.com which I highly recommend. So I hope you'll all do.
But for now, here's the official music video for 'Fade like a shadow'. Enjoy!
For all of you who are curious about how Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning look on screen together as friends instead of enemies, I give you ‘The Runaways’.
This is the story of guitarist and singer Joan Jett who had the dream of forming an all-girl rock band. With some help of famous manager Kim Fowley the band becomes reality and this is where we meet Cherie Currie. Most of us know the reputation of these two ladies, so we can imagine how the story ends, but what happens in the meantime? The movie is distributed in the United States and was supposed to be in theaters in The Netherlands soon also, but due to several reasons this plan, regretfully, is postponed. But no worries, the movie is already to be seen on DVD, Blue Ray and online. To all that like the music, the actresses or the true story of Joan and Cherie, you should definitely see it!
I have this little addiction to Urban Outfitters, especially for the jewelry and things to decorate your home with. Too bad I don't have my own home yet but when I do I promise you, I'll be online shopping at http://www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk/ and you should too.
Here some things I love, owl and bird related things are so cool.
These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and powder Which, as they kiss, consume Romeo & Juliet, Act 11, Scene VI New Moon Beginning

I just think these quotes (and monologues in the Twilight Sage) are beautifull... If only I could write like that. Love xx,
Even better, I'll make you one. Maybe you'll get to know me a little through some of my favorite songs and artists. I'm sure they are all to be found on Youtube. Enjoy!
Band of skulls - Light of the morning Moke - Switch Go Back To The Zoo - Hey DJ The Dandy Warhols - Bohemian like you One Republic - Secrets KT Tunstall - Stoppin' the love The Kooks - Naive Plasticines - Bitch The Donnas - Take it off Anberlin - Enjoy the silence Ok Go - Invincible Nickelback - Figured you out Foo Fighters - The pretender Muse - Supermassive black hole Paramore - Where the lines overlap Katy Perry - California Gurls Sia - Clap your hands N.E.R.D - She wants to move
Facts: - I mostly like bands, not individual singers. - The noise of distored guitars may be my favorite noise in the world. - I love it when a rock band consists of only girls. Even cooler, girl power! - I am never able to mention a one and only favorite song. I can't choose.
If you read the title of this blog literally you might think I lost my mind. First of all, even literally taken it's a cool idea because visiting the zoo is totally old skool. But for people who are Dutch or into Dutch music this title might mean something different: Exactly, a band.
These 4 guys from Nijmegen and Amsterdam were inspired by a big mess of different other bands but all I can say is that whatever this influence was, it worked. Their music is catchy and makes you happy, at least me.
They also have twitter, namely @GoBackToTheZOO and a few days ago I saw a tweet saying that people that wrote a good explanation why they should be allowed, had a chance to win two tickets to the release party of their new album 'Benny Blisto' in Amsterdam. There is this Dutch saying (literally translated): if you never shoot, you always miss. So with that sentence in my thoughts I typed a short message why I should be allowed to the party and send it. Even if I would fail, at least I tried!
Then the next day my blackberry said I had an e-mail (yes the blackberry is back!) and it was from the management of the band saying that my message was that good that I was invited to their party upcoming Tuesday! Yaaaaay So Tuesday the 10th of August I am taking my sister to the club Westerunie in Amsterdam for one hell of a party. There is just one issue left, an issue that will probably be an issue for every remaining day of my life: What will I wear?
Since the band is called Go Back To The Zoo, I am planning on wearing something animal inspired. I'm not sure yet what it will be, but I will figure something out.
Here some music for all of you who don't know them yet, enjoy!
